November 15, 1962 – What happened in the Western North Atlantic Ocean?
This is what happened;
An Extra-Tropical Cyclone with Explosive Cyclogenesis, also known as a Bombogenesis Storm, struck without any warning from the U.S. Weather Bureau. When it was over six ships and thirty-six mariners would never return home. If you found the story of the Perfect Storm interesting you need to read Neptune’s Nor’easter. This is another “perfect storm” that very few people know about, and it occurred 29-years before that famous and well known storm struck. My father always said that there was nothing “perfect” about Neptune’s Nor’easter, and he was out on the Georges Bank fishing grounds during this one. He survived Neptune’s Nor’easter and came home, but he always maintained that in a 50-year career as a New Bedford fisherman, this was the only time that he thought he would be lost at sea.
